FIELD HOCKEY

FIELD HOCKEY

Field Hockey in Rome offers several opportunities for OMI student-athletes. With ten total teams at the men’s and women’s level, and thanks to our partnership with the Italian Hockey Federation (FIH), once in Rome our students have the opportunity to sign with one of these clubs and participate in a national championship and in the Coppa Italia, a competition parallel to the championship, also of a national nature.

The Italian Field Hockey Championship is the main sporting event for Italian field hockey clubs. It consists of three levels: Serie A1, Serie A2 and Serie B.

CLUB NETWORK

Like other sports in Italy, field hockey is played in city clubs. Therefore, teams are diverse in nature and are composed, for the most part, by local players and some international athletes. OMI is proud to partner up with all the clubs based in Rome competing at all levels. Each OMI player has the opportunity to sign with a club and compete in the Italian competition.

LONGER SEASON

The field hockey season starts in October and ends late May with a couple of months winter break around the Christmas holidays. Clubs compete at a national level with Championship and Coppa Italia games every weekend. With training 2 to 3 times per week, our field hockey players are constantly competing throughout the academic year.

OUR PARTNERSHIPS

Among all, OMI boasts a prestigious partnership with the Italian Hockey Federation and with all the clubs based in Rome. The objective of these partnerships is to make sure our athletes are provided with an authentic and competitive experience while in Italy.

OUR ACADEMIC OPTIONS

  • Our first option is a 1-year master’s program which is designed for those who want to pursue a successful career in the sports industry.  This is a perfect step if you want to get a higher education while playing the sport you love after college.
  • Our second option is an undergraduate program. OMI & Link Campus University offers the unique opportunity to combine a 3-year bachelor’s degree and sports at the highest level. Through our undergraduate program, you will be able to attend our courses while playing field hockey in Italy.
  • Our third option is the OMI gap year//semester program. This program is a perfect fit for those athletes wanting to focus mainly on field hockey while taking a few credits. This is the most popular option among student-athletes who just graduated from high-school and want to take a gap year/semester before enrolling into a college.
